DESCRIPTION:You are cordially invited toThe Bill Fergusson Aviation Art ExhibitionUnveiling Ceremony3:00pm Thursday\, December 10\, 2009Sumner Regional Airport1475 Airport Road\, Gallatin(Click HERE for online directions) Highly detailed collection of over 40 pencil sketches of airplanes covers a period in aviation history of the 1930s and 1940s. Artist\, Aviator\, & Adventurer\, Bill W. Fergusson II was born in Hendersonville\, Tennessee on December 10\, 1920\, with an innate passion to fly. As a boy he built and flew model airplanes\, and owned two airplanes before ever owning a car. He graduated from Gallatin High School in 1939. Bill served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII as fighter pilot and flight instructor. An aviation career took him all over the world\, beginning with Cessna Aircraft Corporation including a brush with Hollywood fame as the stunt pilot for the TV series SkyKing\, flying the Cessna 310. In 1960 Bill was recruited by Hughes Tool Co. (aka Hughes Aircraft) to develop the initial sales efforts of their first helicopter program. Based in Australia for 26 years\, he was demonstration pilot and marketing manager for aircraft distributors and manufacturers\, covering regions throughout S.E. Asia\, the Middle East\, Far East\, Pacific\, North & South America. In 1986 Bill and his Australian-born wife Dayle moved to the Fergusson family homeplace (circa. 1915) in Hendersonville. The Fergusson adventures continued with a sailboat charter business on Old Hickory Lake for 20 years. The duo has been active in the Goodlettsville and Hendersonville communities for many years. After Bill's passing on March 30\, 2008\, many of these intriguing sketches were re-discovered. Gallatin & Goodlettsville Area Chambers of Commerce will host refreshments and an After Hours Mixer for all following the unveiling.
